TP316L, an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel with molybdenum and low carbon content, provides remarkable resistance to corrosion. It is indicated for organic acids at high concentrations and moderate temperatures, as well as for inorganic acids, salt solutions, sulphates, sulphides and sulphites, at moderate concentrations and temperatures.
In comparison to type TP316 steels, TP316L is recognized for its low carbon content which results in a improved resistance to intergranular corrosion. Yet, TP316L’s corrosion resistance could be impaired if exposed to temperatures above 60°C (140°F) and certain solutions containing chlorides. Therefore, it is important to prevent service conditions leading to stress corrosion cracking and pitting.
Meilong Tube operates from a complex of 20,000 square meter buildings that contain tube mills. They are designed and fabricated by Meilong Tube and are used to form and gas-tungsten arc weld strip stock into tubes. For certain tubing dimensions, the manufacturing process requires the tubing to be welded at a larger outside diameter and then sunk in multiple reduction and heat treatment operations. Another type of cold working process is floating-plug operation which involves pulling tubing through a lubricated die with an internal floating plug controlling the inside diameter. Finally, to achieve the desired mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, the tubing is heat-treated in an off-mill furnace.
